Bethel’s History

The history of this blessed great Institution may be traced back to 1993 after Rev. J.O. Adegbite completed his first degree in Theology in the University of London. He started one on one theological tutorials in London UK to prepare candidates for the University of Cambridge Examinations for Certificate and Diploma in Religious Studies. The success of all candidates taught without any other lecturer led to the confidence that he can start a theological college. The very first candidate to be successful in the Cambridge Examinations was his wife now Dr (Mrs) Deborah D. Adegbite who later gained admission to the University of Wales in the year she passed the Cambridge papers.

Sometime later, a friend and a brother in the Lord (Mr Dele Adeleye) helped to register the Institution name as Bethel College of Theology (London) as a legal charity organization in England and Wales.

The name was kept until the College was moved to Nigeria in 1998 by Divine order that said “Go to Nigeria, increase the Saints”.

In Nigeria, (1998), the College was located in Alakia-Isebo area of Ibadan under the name Bethel College Institute of Theology & Biblical Research. Later it was moved to Egbeda area in Ibadan where the College was fully in collaboration with Redeemer's University ( a State and Commonwealth University), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria for the purpose of National and International recognition with an adjusted name Bethel Institute of Theology & Biblical Research, the name it bears up to date.

In 2008, the College was moved to its permanent site which was beautifully designed and located on 79 plots of land alongside Ife/Ibadan Expressway, Akiriboto, Gbongan area of Osun State.

In July 2020, the college was incorporated as Bethelights Theological Seminary

We pray the Lord will bless you as you are contemplating on learning at Bethel.

Open Day Lectures

Annually, on the 1st of October, Bethel holds “Open Day” lectures; but if any October 1, falls on a Sunday, the program will hold on Monday the 2nd of October. Apart from October 1 lectures, we sometimes hold occasional lectures that is equally open to all. These Open Day lectures are full of powerful and controversial biblical interpretations, apart from that, the lectures are full of wisdom and in-depth academic and spiritual expositions of selected Bible passages, most of them are now published in two books mainly: “The Church is in Trouble: Where is the Saviour?” and “Why & When Would You Die?”
